After serving as teachers in the Peace Corps in the Marshall Islands from 1970 to 1972, my husband and I dreamed of returning to the Pacific islands. In 1986, we moved to the Big Island from the Olympic Peninsula in Washington. We chose to live in upcountry Hamakua where the air is cool and rolling green hills dotted with trees slope towards the blue Pacific Ocean. We built our home with solar electric and water catchment systems and planted an orchard and timber. Our son and daughter were raised here and both graduated from Hawaii Preparatory Academy. Over the years I’ve enjoyed keeping and riding horses, snorkeling, stargazing, and gardening.
My work and interests take me to wonderful places all over the Big Island. With its amazing diversity of climate, vegetation, scenery and topography Hawaii Island feels more like a small continent. I have been active in several organizations which focus on public access and open space issues, including the Save Our Lands Citizens Committee, which conducted a successful ballot initiative campaign which made it possible for the people of Hawaii County to secure treasured lands for future generations.
I am proud to have been with the same real estate company since 1987 (Bradley Properties, Ltd., which became Clark Realty). It is the largest and the top-producing real estate company specializing in Hawaii Island properties. More importantly, the company’s professional standards and the integrity of our management team and agents are unsurpassed. I will gladly put my enthusiasm and knowledge to help you purchase or sell a property.
Finding the right location is just as important as finding the right home, and no one knows the local area better than a local agent. Allow me to help you find the perfect community for you, your family, and your lifestyle.
I have lived on the Big Island for 35 years and have many friends and acquaintances who are Realtors. When I decided to look for another property investment, I chose Karen Clarkson to represent me in the search and purchase. Karen’s many years of experience, her genuine interest in knowing her clients and assisting them in finding the property that they are looking for is what I wanted in a realtor. From the many months of patient search, through the offer and final purchase, Karen was there as my advocate and expert. I have referred her many times to residents and visitors who are looking for real estate and who are seeking a professional representative.

"Clark Realty agents have one primary goal: to provide exceptional service with professionalism, integrity and aloha. Each agent has access to the best available tools to help buyers find the property that suits their needs and to help sellers successfully market their properties both locally and globally. Your Clark Realty agent is also supported by a managing broker in their local office and an on-island management team with decades of real estate experience."
"Working with Karen Clarkson of Clark Realty was a wonderful experience. Karen was very patient with me and my family during our house hunting experience. I knew we wanted to stay on the Hamakua coast as we had been living there for the last 23 years and while I did not think we had unreasonable desires it still was a process. Karen set me up with a wonderful service that emailed me all the available inventory that fit my needs and desires. Karen is always friendly and helpful. She answered every question we had and since I bought a short sale there were many! Karen was always willing to take us to see what we wanted see even showing us a house on Thanksgiving! Talk about exceptional service. We love our new house. It’s the perfect house for us, right size, perfect neighborhood and it was a great price. Karen is a true professional with many years of experience who truly cares about her clients. "
